Wooden Deck Maintenance

African hardwoods will last for many years in the open environment; however it is always best to treat the deck from time to time. There are two traditional treatment options: Regular oiling of the deck, required approximately every 40 days; and sealing of the deck with a polyurethane based sealant, which should be re-applied approximately every 6 months. These are guide lines only as each deck will require less or more frequent treatment dependent on its positioning and exposure to the elements. Such treatment will make the wood’s natural deep shine come forth and extends the life of the surface.
